I arrived at 11:30 for day surgery and I didn't get a bed on a ward until 13:15. There were no tests done in that time, I was just sitting in the waiting room. The staff on ward 15 were lovely. Had to wait until 4pm to be taken down to theatre and I was aneasthetised at 4:20. I woke up in recovery at 5:20 and I had to wait for ward 15 to collect me. I had waited so long that ward 15 had actually closed for the night and had to wait for a bed on another ward. It wasn't until 7:55, a whole 2 hours and 35 minutes later that a lovely recovery nurse took me up to ward 10 because that ward was too busy for someone to collect me. I eventually left the hospital at 9:30. I didn't get to speak to a doctor to see what happened during surgery and I felt a bit left in the dark. I can understand that they were busy, but there was no need to be in so early when they didn't intend to operate until much later and I was told by a recovery nurse that the ward should pick a patient up from recovery within 10 minutes so it was ridiculous having to wait as long as I did when all I wanted to do was get out of there and get home!
"Unnecessary wait!"
