I was recently a patient under an orthopaedic surgeon at Wansbeck Hospital. From my initial consultation, through to my eventual surgery this week, having been cancelled twice due to striking NHS workers in Nov 2014 then due to bed crisis between Christmas and the New Year period I felt the need to review the services from a patient perspective. I can honestly say due to the cancellations I was initially concerned about attending this hospital however I have had a brilliant experience from the staff I have had the pleasure of speaking to at Wansbeck hospital from the porters, the x ray team, the theatre staff, the pain team, the physiotherapists, occupational therapists, all the nursing staff and domestics on ward 7 and the consultant, his secretary and his team. It is refreshing to see that such dedicated care can still function in today’s modern underfunded nhs the team of staff showed dignity and respect to all with excellent communication skills all of the staff I encountered where friendly and caring, and more than willing to assist when necessary despite always being busy and a little understaffed. Please pass on my comments to the hardworking compassionate surgical team and staff on ward 7 at Wansbeck my experience was reassuring despite all that is portrayed in today’s media I only hope that my follow up care and physiotherapy at north Tyneside general hospital proves to be just as good an experience as the service i have received as an inpatient at Wansbeck general hospital
