"Fantastic care and professionalism"

About: St Peter's Hospital (Chertsey)

We visited A&E at St Peter's on Sunday 4th January 2015 as our 5 year old son had fallen headfirst from the stairs onto a laminate floor. As we were checking in, a nurse from Paediatric A&E saw him and quickly ushered us through to Paediatric A&E and checked him over. We very quickly then saw 2 doctors, he was CT scanned and then incubated for transfer to St George's. Throughout this process the team of doctors, anaesthetists and nurses were attentive to him and us, kept us fully informed in a way that we could understand and communicated effectively with each other and St George's to ensure that he was transferred safely so that the neurological team could then operate on him in time to not only save his life but also ensure that there would be no long term brain damage caused by the bleed. We cannot remember most of the names of the key people but the main Doctor who we dealt with was excellent in the clarity of communication and decisiveness. The anaesthetist team likewise. We felt that our son was in incredibly safe hands and were massively reassured. We would like to pass our thanks on to them and also the ambulance driver who got me a sandwich and who kept me calm. However, extra special thanks and commendation must go to the nurse who saw the danger and looked after Thomas and us with such compassion and professionalism. She followed this up by contacting St George's to check how he was. We were incredibly touched by this and this typifies a the brilliance that we experienced of NHS employees in both hospitals going the extra mile to not only do a job but do it in a humane and caring way. We will be forever grateful for the efforts of the staff of St Peter's A&E for what they did that evening.
