About: Queen's Hospital, Burton Upon Trent

Having been referred by my dentsit to the hospital to have wisdom teeth removed, i foolishly thought my appointment yesterday with the consultant was for pre-med and a date for the op. No this was not the case. After having more x-rays and a quick 5minute look round my mouth i was told I needed to call to book my assesment of fitness for anaethetic the next day as that depatment was closed for the day. It was only 3.30pm. When i called the number the consultant gave me they said the appointment would come thru automatically thru the post. Wasted phone call on my part. When asked how long this would take i was told 8-10 weeks! how long after this assessment will my op take? who knows, very unforthcoming with info. i took a day off work thinking i was close to having my pain taken away but i feel very let down with the service i have recieved so far. On the choices website from consultant to outpatient appointment is given as 38 days. there is no figure i can see for assessments or day surgery targets. if an assessment for surgery is classsed as an outpatient appointment then the two figures given are widey different.
