"Procedure at Hull Royal Infirmary changed my life"

About: Hull Royal Infirmary / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

I had suffered for years with abdominal pain. After being told by my GP for those years that it was just IBS, I finally convinced my surgery to refer me to the Gynecology department. My consultant was a wonderful woman. We discussed my problems who agreed to do investigations including scans and biopsies. Neither of these proved positive. We then discussed and agreed that a laparoscopy would be the only way to find out for sure, and I said that if nothing turned up, I would just put up with it. So after at least 6 years of pain, my consultant discovered endometriosis which apparently was quite extensive. She removed growths by laser and scalpel, and since that operation last September I have been pain free, which compared to 1 week in 4 pain free is miraculous in my opinion.

I would just like to thank the staff at the Women and Children's dept for being human, listening, and understanding, and that operation has changed me so much.

Thanks a million.
