"More than one failure"

I agree with the statements that this department is a very badly organised. I have glaucoma. I n August 2014 my eye drops prescription was changed (I was not told at that time that I was supposed to use both the existing prescription and the new one together so I naturally used only the new one). I was given an appointment 3 months ahead instead of the normal 6 months to check that the pressure was reduced, a vital necessity.. That appointment was cancelled without reason and no new date given. Six weeks later I still had no appointment. I wrote to the Opthalmology Appointments Office protesting at the continued delay, I did not receive as much as an acknowledgement. Two weeks later I e-mailed the PALS organisation at Worthing Hospital and explained the urgency of the situation. When I had no reply I telephoned them , to be told that, despite using the correct e-mail address and no evidence of non-delivery, they had not received it ! Eventually they gave me a name and extension number to call at the hospital. This at last was successful and I got an appointment a few days later. Needless to say my glaucoma pressure was dangerously high since I was using only one lot of eye drops instead of two combined because of a failure on the part of a nurse practitioner to give me the correct information. I am 86 years of age and, not for the first time, I feel that this Hospital Trust operates a covert ageism policy. Two days after my appointment I developed a very high blood pressure, not something that I am prone to. I called the Opthalmology Department to check whether it may be a side effect of some tablets that was given to take during my appointment to reduce the very high pressure. The person that I spoke to said that she would get out my notes and that someone would call back. Why am I not surprised that I heard nothing. It is fortunate that the clinic doctors have expertise, and while the staff in general treat patients kindly and efficiently, the appointments system is in need of a severe overhaul.
