I was a patient on the maternity ward and I could not possibly fault them. The care I received was top class as I mattered to them and it was all about getting me better so I could go home, but I couldn't possibly say that for my husband who's had a negative experience at A and E from having to wait ridiculous long hours to get seen and having to sit in the waiting area to watch a cleaner come by to clean the toilet using a mop she had used to clean in front of the drinks machine into the toilet and use her hand to pick up toilet paper from the ground without gloves and using the same hands that wasn't washed to refill toilet paper and napkins. Is this not how diseases are spread? Cleaners should be very careful how they handle cleaning because they are our first line of defence against illness. So I wasn't impressed at all.

Thank you for taking the time to share you recent experience of our A&E Department in the NHS Choices website. Whilst I am delighted to learn of your recent experience of our maternity Services, I am very disappointed regarding your husband’s experience in A&E. I apologise your husband had a long wait to be seen recently, however, as you are probably aware from recent media coverage, A&E Departments up and down the country have been experiencing unprecedented activity levels, our own department included. I have noted your comments regarding the domestic staff and will ensure these are passed on to the relevant managers to ensure appropriate lessons can be learned from your husband’s observations.
