"wasted appointments, lack of care...fertility"

About: Birmingham Women's Hospital

I asked to be referred here in September as I know we need to self fund our treatment. Although I have had all the tests on the nhs, it was deemed necessary for another blood test and we were sent away with leaflets about what happens if we choose to self fund. As advised I rang the department and asked about starting self funding, but the receptionist was rather snooty and said "you dont know if there is anything wrong with you or not yet. You need to be finished with gynaecology before getting an appoinment". I told her I was and now wanted to start the process of self funding but she was adament I could not. She saw we had an appointment booked for January (that was booked for if we became eligible for nhs help). She said "what did you think, you could start treatment straight away. It doesn't work like that" . So angry at her attitude we waited patiently for this appointment only to be told by the consultant we could have rang this number and got straight on with it. I explained I tried that already and what she had said. Well now I have to wait longer than originally told. This is a stressful and upsetting enough time as it is. If yoy want self funding fertility treatment do not come here.

Firstly, thank you for taking the time to feedback, however, we are very sorry to hear that you have experienced rudeness at the hospital. We will ensure that your comments are forwarded to the Fertility Centre so that the issues you have raised can be looked into. If you would like to speak to anyone further about your experience, please contact the PALS Team who can offer help and advice. You can call them on 0121 627 2747. We hope that you have a better experience with the Women's at future appointments and your feedback will help to make improvements in our services.
