"Good hospital care when I had cancer"

I was admitted to the Royal Hallamshire Hospital on the 16th September 2008. Tests lasted 3 days and I was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia. I was transferred from assessment to G2 for treatment. The information I received was very good and I was kept informed during my stay.

I received chemotherapy and remained in the Hallamshire for 6 weeks. The care was good on the main wards but when I was in isolation I found the staff didn’t always have enough time for care.

I transferred to the Northern General Hospital for a stoma operation and the treatment and care was very good.

I have been back to the Hallamshire in P3 3 times for chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant. In total I have spent 25 weeks in hospital and in the main the care was good. Some of the staff are good at responding to requests or for information and some not, for as soon as they leave my room they appear to forget my requests.

I frequently visit the O2 day clinic for updates and treatment and although I sometimes have to wait around to see the doctor or for treatment/drugs, the staff are co-operative and helpful.

I don’t like the food at the Hallamshire and my wife brought all my food in.
