About: City Hospital (Birmingham)

I attended the ENT department today to see a consultant following a re-referral after unsuccessful endiscopic sinus surgery. This surgery took place in a different hospital as I lived in another city at the time. After suffering years of sinus headaches and constant daily excessive mucus production, I decided not to give up and visit my GP for another referral to ENT (as they are the specialists). I have been taking strong antihistamines all year round for a number of years, tried numerous different nasal sprays, nasal douches and purchases expensive decongestants over he counter (which is usually only recommended for a week at at time) and nothing has helped. I have difficulty breathing at night and I have a decreased sense of smell. The consultant sent me for a scan of the sinuses and I got my results today-he advised me this is clear and said "where do we go from here?" I replied "I'm not sure, you tell me?" The consultant then proceeded to tell me there is nothing else he can do but he can get my GP to prescribe me a nasal spray?! When I advised the consultant that I had previously used a number of nasal sprays (as I did on my first visit with him) he said "well there's no other option". He then proceeded to ask me exactly what my symptoms were! I would've thought he would've made some notes on this and have the info from the original referral?! He was very dismissive and made me feel like I was wasting his time-I do not enjoy my condition, nor do I enjoy taking time out of my busy schedule to be told there is nothing he can do but tell the doctor to give me another nasal spray! Yes thanks for your help!!
