"Bowel screening"

About: Leighton Hospital

I was very unsure about attending for bowel screening as I had not had any problems and felt it would be embarrassing and painful. I do however feel we should take expert advice to keep ourselves well. I was very impressed by the sensitivity of the staff and felt that they tried to support me throughout my visit. They explained the procedure well and although a little uncomfortable it was easily bearable for the duration of the test. I felt that my privacy and dignity were supported throughout. I was shown areas of diverticular that were found and given a leaflet about increasing fibre in my diet to prevent problems in the future. The experience was much better than I had anticipated due to the excellent care provided by the staff.

The Bowel Screening Programme Team are glad to hear you felt supported throughout your test and to hear your experience was so positive. We are always happy to receive feedback from patients and I have notified the team of your comments, which have been very gratefully received. We would like to wish you all the very best for your future health and are delighted that you have been able to recommend the Bowel Screening Service as such a positive experience to people who view NHS Choices reviews.
