I would like to make some positive comments about my stay in Torbay Hospital 24/25 December 2014. I was very surprised on Christmas Eve to receive a visit form my GP at 5pm advising me to go to A&E without delay as a second test result suggested possible Pulmonary Embolism. I went to A&E, and was triaged fairly quickly. Although I had to wait, I was examined after about 2 hours and admitted to EAU3 where I stayed until mid-morning 25 December. As a result of a CT scan it was confirmed PE in both lungs and I received prompt treatment and was released home on the understanding that I return for further PE treatment that night and on the 26th prior to being seen at TAIRU on the 27th. My treatment and care on EAU3 was super. I was treated kindly and with dignity, and the level of skill at a busy time never faltered. (On Christmas morning I was very touched to receive a card and diary from the League of Friends and a gift from the ward. I'm not a sentimental person, but this meant a lot at a time of worry. Very thoughtful.) The resulting treatment on EAU3 was professional and I was happy with my experience. They even managed to raise a laugh from me about the Fragmin injections, which helped enormously. In TAIRU on the 27th I was accompanied by my husband, and I have to say was amazed and pleased by the level of information, and care I was given by Sister. Everything was explained clearly and I was left in no doubt about the process during the following few days. On returning home I was visited by the MAT sisters, who again were professional and treated me with dignity and kindness. I cannot commend all the treatment I received too highly. It made the difference between feeling dismal and feeling encouraged. Since then I have been discharged back to the GP, and my results have continued to be encouraging. Many thanks to all, at a time when everyone seems to be taking opportunistic pot shots at the NHS (I have to say, no change about that from when I used to work in the NHS 1989-1996), it needs to be said that it's valued and the people working within are valued too. What an amazing service it is. Thank you
