My Father was admitted to AMU 1 & 2 with a UTI and malnutrition. The medical staff were faultless but the treatment and followup was aweful. Nebulisers were not given as they had ran out of stock so i bought some in from home, he still wasnt given them when needed as nurses too busy and air cylinder was empty as he can not have oxygen. regular medication were not prescribed or given until night so went all afternoon and evening without his COPD medication, he wasnt washed the whole time he was in the department (48 hrs) even though he asked. I told numerous nurses that he needs a dietician review as he hs lost 2 stone in a year, no referal had been made, no up to date weight done and no suppliment drinks prescribed. Also on admission information was given regarding his social situation, that he has Social Services funded POC and needed a reassessment ? increase needed. it was handed over to the ward he was self funding and everything was ok. The nursing staff are not to blame for this as they are over stretched and have too many patients to look after, not enough time to do all the documentation correctly or answer/ carryout all their patients needs. This type of care is totally unacceptable in my book.
