On new years day following a fall from my bike I found myself in ward 9 at Birmingham Heartlands Hospital, where I had to undergo some surgery and spend a few days. From the moment I was picked up by the Ambulance to the moment I was given a cheery wave goodbye from a member of staff. I and my family were treated with professionalism, respect, dignity, efficiency, compassion and not a little good humour.
I cannot praise the staff there highly enough for their dedication and sheer work rate at what must be a very hard time for them.
I think it is about time that we should recognise what an absolute national treasure the NHS is and rally round to give it our support and not continually undermine it with petty criticism.
Keep up the amazing work and please extend my gratitude and heartfelt thanks to all of the staff, but especially the nursing staff on ward 9. What great people you all are.
