What an impressive looking hospital. The inside looks just as good. The areas that require attention in my view are. 1. Why are people allowed to smoke on the site? The staff are as bad as the visitors in this case. When we came to see a new born child and parents we walked past the car park pay points and then the ash tray towards the entrance. People were stood in front of the children's entrance smoking so we had to walk through the smoke to both get in and out of the hospital. Over the subsequent visits where I observed while waiting in the 'pickup drop off area' I noticed a number of new born children being carried through this smoking area (including my new grandson) and this is why I am so concerned. 2. The maternity ward has a buzzer with a 'Press Once' instruction. You hear the buzzer ringing but unless you come with a big bump at the front of you there is rarely a response. When I came to pick up Mum, Dad and Son I ended up texting the father to come and open the door. While we were waiting an expectant mother turned up and got a quick response. Unless your staff ask why you are buzzing then people just get frustrated. I visited the ward a number of times and each time this comment I could say is a valid one. 3. Do you thing you could supply the people who come to pick up or drop off people bringing in or collecting your discharged patients the medication to take as 20 mins is not really enough time to perform this function. 30 mins is the allocated time in Aintree which I found very reasonable. Please sort your smoking problem out as I think it is more important than the other comments. I will be waiting for a reply especially on the smoking comment. Regards David Large BSc MIET
