My grandmother has just been discharged from Lister. I visited her several times and was unimpressed by the levels of care received. Getting someone to make a decision about the smallest things such as whether I could wheel her to the day room in a certain chair (they included themselves in the decision by standing nearby making disapproving noises) was nigh on impossible, although the general decision making seemed to be made on whether a member of staff would be required to take action themselves or not; if the answer was not then you were free to go ahead. Her sleeping medication was forgotten several times which left her very unhappy. No explanation was given as to why this occurred. My main problem is in the fact she was required to take her own medication in. She was discharged via hospital transport and the medication was not sent home with her. It includes sleeping tablets and morphine which she required for her breathing. We have rung the hospital several times ; last night they were not authorised to give her her own medication back and today, having rung and hung on several times already, the Dr is now at lunch and we are supposed to ring back yet again. No one seems to want to take responsibility for this, or to resolve this issue, instead they seem perfectly content with the knowledge that an 83 year old is at home without crucial medication. Shame on you Lister.
