"Credit where credit is due!"

My son-in-law was transported by ambulance to Lister Hospital at approximately 5am in the morning. We waited some considerable time for him to be seen and his assessment and the subsequent tests were eventually done over a period of about seven hours. Fortunately his condition was not life threatening and he did not need to be admitted. During our time in the A&E Department we observed many things that could and would provide evidence of just how under resourced the service is and how this impacts on the staff and patients alike. The situation is so obviously unacceptable, unmanageable, untenable and unworkable in both the short and long term. However, we also witnessed how some individuals gave their all to uphold what constitutes caring and professionalism in the most difficult of circumstances. One such person was a Staff Nurse who was helpful, compassionate, kind, competent and appeared totally committed to the demands of her task. From the time she came on duty she worked constantly and unerringly, but she did it all with a smile. As such, we feel she deserves a mention and some recognition for the part she played in reassuring myself, my daughter and my son-in-law that there are still some individuals who are representing nursing as a vocation that needs to be valued and appreciated in practical, monetary and complimentary terms.
