"Excellent service (just worry about after care..."

About: Good Hope Hospital

My father was taken in by the ambulance in severe abdominal pain. The ambulance crew where great and A&E was full and patients on trolleys and chairs, so a chaotic environment, staff where discussing how to manage the over subscribed A&E however my dad took a turn for the worst and the ambulance crew and a colleague where great along with a nurse who got him to resuscitation but they said he condition was fatal. He had a x-ray and the surgeon arrived, who advised dad was not likely to survive and needed to see if the anaesthetist would say about his risk of operating. He told us straight and Dad say your goodbyes it was unlikely he would survive! Dad looked his age of 77 and frail for the pain he was in. He had a old scar that had pierced his bowel and it was stuck to the scar and he was being poisoned (septsis). We said dad is has a heart condition and has had two small TDi's but was of good health as he walked every day he isnt your normal 77 year old but does have his moments. They operated but made us say our goodbyes! Dad had the op and survive and was on ICU - Intensive care on life support although they said dad could do the work if he wanted to, it was a tense two days and later on new years eve he was taken off life support. He made real good progress for a couple of days medically and was supported excellently. Dad has now moved to a ward and is feeling better today 7 days since this happened. Although when he was initially moved I was not happy with his care and felt ward staff were cold towards dad and his symptoms and have raised this with the hospital surgeon after all care means care and the other areas of the hospital I can not fault at all. I can not thank the ambulance crew, A&E crew, Surgeons and the ICU staff you are a true credit to your profession in such busy and extreme circumstance you help us and my dad keep his dignity which is something I am as my family are truly grateful for. I just pray that funding is at the forefront of governments mind and stop putting targets on hospitals and let them do their jobs #reallifes #realpeople
