In May I had breathing difficulties and pain in my chest. I called in at the Royal Hallamshire walk-in centre and I was seen immediately. I was quickly taken onto emergency admissions and put on to ward K1 within hours. I was impressed by the whole experience (I have never been admitted to hospital previously). Doctors, nurses and ward staff were very impressive, particularly the nursing staff (of course I had most contact with them). I’d heard jokes about hospital food, but it was really good. Cleaning was good too.
I bought some plugs and hooks along with a load of chocolates and biscuits for the staff a few days after my release. I have heard other “horror stories” but my own experience was excellent.
The only downside was the poor standard of building maintenance.
1)No power sockets next to the beds.
2)The reading light needed an extension control to work it but there weren’t enough to go round.
3)Only two sink plugs for four sinks in the toilet.
4)The coat hooks in the WC cubicles were 2ft off the floor (very low!)
"My experience was excellent"
