"Street fall and off-hand treatment "

My colleague had a bad fall on Friday midday on Charing Cross Road, tripping then knocking herself unconscious in the midst of the building works on Charing Cross Road opposite Centre Point on a metal sign leaning against a wall. Passers by called an ambulance. After about 10 minutes she was taken by ambulance to UCH where she was left strapped to a trolley, with an alarm button, completely alone in a cubicle for nearly an hour.An admin. asst. at her workplace, who had received a very brief call from a passer-by,when my colleague had recovered consciousness to give her number, eventually tracked her down to UCH – but was simply told by a nurse that she was ok and did not need anyone with her! This after she had lost a lot of blood from the injury behind her nose, been unconscious, been given morphine by the doctor and had x-rays and various tests, and was in shock and severe pain (she still is) from whiplash and trauma and shock.. Information about what to look out for once she had been discharged was only partial – the doctor was interrupted as he was telling her, and the nurse who promised to come back to give her the information did not reappear. Incredibly she was then discharged and left to make her own way home on public transport to East London. Her sister, with whom she lives, knew nothing about the accident until she retuned home at 8pm. How is it possible that any procedure with anaesthetic requires someone with you to collect you and stay the night – yet after an accident, involving loss of blood, a head injury serious enough for morphine and heavy duty painkillers no-one checked that she had a) someone to collect her, or b)someone to stay with her that night? . None of her colleagues would wish to be treated in this off-hand way, and I suspect none of yours would either. PS My colleague does not own a mobile phone - do you think she was being punished for this omission?
