"Main switchboard"

About: The Royal London Hospital

I have been a patient at mile end for over ten years. The switchboard are without doubt one of the harshest, coldest, rudest services I have had to use. They put you through before you finishing speaking and so often i end up with the wrong place. because they don't wait I never get the direct line number so I have to call the switchboard again. if they could do just thing to make it better for callers it would be to just be nice. Callers will be distressed, sick, frightened, anxious and we are busy too! Switchboard are the front line of the hospital and the first contact for someone who may be very sick or bereaved or lost and late for a job interview - anything. I know the public can be rude too and that must be difficult. But it's the switchboard's job to handle calls. Please please don't make an already difficult phone call even worse.
