"very positive experience"

About: Hemel Hempstead Hospital

I had dialled 111 and in a short while a doctor called. Made me an out of hours appointment for that afternoon but suggested, from my breathing, that I could go to urgent care as soon as I felt I should. Once there, the waiting room was quite full. I was much earlier than my given appointment...........no problem...........was asked a few questions and asked to take a seat. The receptionist was very pleasant and even asked if I was asthmatic as she noted my breathing. I waited no more than 15 minutes and felt very surprised when my name was called as I had been told there would be a wait. The nurse was very caring and informative, I found it very reassuring that he asked about my home situation. [ In my experience, so far, GPs have never asked this when I have been in a similar health situation and had to get myself home to an empty house. This can be quite scary when on your own and not able to breathe properly!] I felt confident enough to ask questions and he was telling me what was and what would happen. During my time on a nebuliser [twice], although I was left, there was a frequent checking on me and how it was going. The second nurse allayed all my fears about the reaction to the nebuliser I had had before and explained the reason very sympathetically. Was soon breathing much more easily, medicated and given an antibiotics course and steroids for that day. Would have been good not to have to get the rest of the steroids on a script as just needed to get home. I am lucky someone would get them for me next day [so couldn't take them until well after prescribed time ].....other singles might not have that friend......just a small thought. I thanked all as I left. They made me feel cared for and that my condition was important to them. They were efficient and professional but at the same time very friendly and empathetic. The second nurse even said "" take good care of yourself."".as I left...how kind!! Would like to express my thanks to having this facility in Hemel and for the superb staff who serve us there.
