"Very caring nurses"

About: Royal Albert Edward Infirmary

I had trouble with an abscess and was frightened that i might need an operation, but my GP said he would make me an appointment with the surgeon instead of going to A and E. I was sent to the surgical assessing unit where I had blood tests and given painkillers. I was constantly updated by the lovely nurses because the surgeon was still operating in an emergency. The surgeon rushed to see me and managed to cut the abscess out while i was there giving me a numbing injection. I was able to go home that day with painkillers and antibiotics and no need for an operation, phew! The nurses were so busy because another patient was very confused and shouting and kept trying to get out of bed, but they were all so kind to her and made sure we were all seen to. The NHS keeps getting a bad name but i could not fault this ward, everyone was just brilliant, thank you

Thank you so much for sharing your experience following your attendance at the Surgical Assessment Unit. It is very pleasing to note that your patient journey was such a positive experience. In particular your comments regarding the staff who were able to put you at your ease.

It is important that the staff are able to support patients during such a stressful and anxious time, and your comments have confirmed that this is something that they do well. I will ensure that this posting is shared with all the staff on the Surgical Assessment Unit.
