"appalling care"

About: Southport & Formby District General Hospital

I would like to express how dissatisfied I am with the care which is provided at this hospital. As a current employee of an NHS hospital, I am aware of what is considered to be both good and bad practice. Unfortunately, my most recent experience at this hospital was most unsatisfactory and should be seen to be a cause for concern. The incident to which I am referring to is when my mother was admitted to the A and E department on the 1st of January 2015. Although, I will admit the ward was extremely busy, this cannot justify the lack of personal hygiene from members of staff. Not one member of staff used any form of hand sanitizer or washed their hands when examining my mother or when administering medication. She was simply left waiting for over 6 hours to be moved to an assessment ward (10a) to then be further examined by staff who again did not decontaminate their hands between each patient interaction. My mother was left on the ward the following day after staying over night for a test the following morning. The tests were completed around 12 pm the next day and the results were told to her at least 8 and a half hours later. When the doctor arrived to inform my mother it was obvious she had not read my mother's medical notes. She was oblivious to the fact by mother has serious medical conditions and of her previous surgery. A reoccurring pattern of the lack of hand hygiene was again shown by the doctor. It appears no member's of staff are following any of the infection control policies of the trust. This doctor in question aassured my mother she would have a repeat of the exam she had at 12pm in the morning. For the reason, my mother had to consent to stay a further night on 10a. Unsurprisingly, the scan which was promised did not occur the following morning. My mother again is left with no knowledge of her treatment. The staff appear to not be communicating with one another as crucial information is not passed onto the relevant person. As I write this review, my mother remains in hospital with no idea of what is happening. I would appreciate an immediate response to this issue as I will be taking this matter further.
