"Line infection - paediatric care"
About: William Harvey Hospital William Harvey Hospital Ashford TN24 0LZ
I am extremely concerned that my infant grandson, seriously ill with ALL Leukaemia, has developed a line infection during his care under the WH. This is not the first time there have been issues with the level of care he is given at WH. I am given to understand that when accessing his port and line the medical staff do not glove-up. Further, there is no evidence that the medical staff follow hand hygiene protocols before carrying out the procedures. This situation seems to fly in the face of all protocols for such procedures. The child in question is now quite unwell, this on top of his very young age and fragile medical condition, anyway. It would seem that the possibility that he developed this infection as a direct result of lax procedures at WH cannot be excluded. I must ask the Head of Nursing to follow this matter up with utmost urgency. I will be making representations in the strongest possible terms to the appropriate authorities by 09.00 on 2 Jan 2014. This is not a matter I will let rest. I do not wish to be flippant in this very serious matter, but the hospital authorities should be on notice that I wont be taking prisoners!
