"no understanding what so ever !"

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - Queen's Medical Centre Campus

I recently took a friend of mine to the queens medical centre . He had a problem with alcohol and was in a bad way , he did have the money to go into private rehab but there were no places so I phoned the hospital and explained the situation . they said bring him down and sure we can help as they had a detox unit there , I took him along and after a 7 hour wait for a so called specialist team to see him and me pleading to give him some medication to calm him down as he was in a state which was ignored a female doctor came out to see him . I explained that I was with steven and had brought him along to the hospital . she looked very judgemental and said he would be seen soon ! after another hour she came along and said she could see him , I asked if I could accompany him into the room and she said no ! after another hour he came wondering towards me and said they can not do any thing for him ! she did not even have the decency to come and have a word with me knowing I was his carer . they did not even give him any medication to help him , I am afraid I can not bring my self to tell you what happened to him after being turned away from that place .

Thank you for taking the time to write and share your concerns about the treatment of your friend when he visited our Emergency Department (ED) to access alcohol rehabilitation services. We are very sorry to hear that you were unhappy with the time he waited in ED and the way in which you feel he was dealt with by the doctor he saw.

As you correctly identify in your comment, drug and alcohol services at Queen’s Medical Centre are a specialist service and are managed, along with adult mental health services, by our colleagues in Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust. We would be happy to make them aware of your concerns, however it may be more appropriate for you to speak directly with someone from their service. You can learn more about drug and alcohol services in Nottingham city by visiting the Substance Misuse Service page of Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust’s website here: http://www.nottinghamshirehealthcare.nhs.uk/our-services/local-services/specialist-services/substance-misuse-services/.
