"A consultant's attitude to my late husband"

About: Western General Hospital / Oncology

(as a relative),

My husband was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer. He was admitted into hospital.

During his stay, his consultant came on the ward; told him he had no future and that he had better make his mind up quick if he wanted to have any treatment. They then marched off leaving him very distressed.

Following his death I complained to the NHS about this consultant but received a disingenuous reply. The Ombudsman said they could not investigate it.

This person should not be allowed to deal with patients face to face.

Dear pricewise

I would like to offer my condolences for the loss of your husband and I am very sorry that you and your husband had such a poor experience at such a difficult time. I am also sorry that the response you received from NHS Lothian was disingenuous. Your experience is certainly not what the organisation strives to achieve. I will personally pass your comments on to the Medical Director.
