In 2007 my husband and I were told at our scan that there seemed to be problems with our baby. We were asked to go back that afternoon to see a consultant, who would re-scan and carry out further tests if we wished.
Our consultant that afternoon, Miss Glanville was wonderful, she explained in great detail about the problems our baby had & also the most likely causes.
She rang us with the results the following day & unfortunately it wasn't the news we were praying for, our little girl had Edwards Syndrome. We were invited to go back to the antenatal unit to sit and discuss our options with Miss Glanville.
On arrival, we were immediately taken into a private side room by a lovely staff member who sat and talked with us, she was so caring & understanding. We then saw our consultant and after a lengthy talk we decided that the best thing for our little girl was to free her soul from her broken body. We were given an appointment for a could of days later to have our baby.
We went in but was told that the snowdrop suite was still occupied but that didnt bother us as we realised somebody else was going through what we were.
The midwife was wonderful & talked us through everything, we were treated with so much respect and kindness.
After we had our little girl we returned to the hospital to discuss funeral arrangements, again the lady who spoke with us was amazing. The hospital arranged the funeral & cremation. The chaplain rung us and spoke about our life & family and together we chose things to say at the service, yet another beautiful soul who worked at St James!
We honestly can't thank the hospital staff enough & have since gone on to have our little boy. Every step of my pregnancy was looked after by Miss Glanville & I cant speak highly enough of her & her team!
The only thing I would suggest however, is to have a seperate unit for parents like ourselves who need to be away from the delivery suite to have our angel babies. The sound of crying babies was torture for us whilst we were there.
