About: Ormskirk & District General Hospital

My immediate impression upon arriving was that we had brought our son to the “right place”. The Children‘s A&E ward was clean, tidy and obviously well maintained, all of which combined to instil a good first impression. The staff were all very professional: the receptionist who took our details upon arrival, the wonderful nurses who assessed my son and the doctor who examined and treated him. Despite the ungodly hour that we had arrived at everyone was welcoming and engaging. At no point during our visit was I given the impression by the nursing team that they were “too busy” to speak to me and they did a very good job of re-assuring me in what were to me very trying circumstances, but to them I suspect, just another day at the office. The compassion and understanding shown by the nurses that I encountered speaks very highly of their work ethic, empathy and professionalism. The doctor that examined my son was very good: professional but not detached, he explained to my son what he was going to do any why, rather than tell me, which impressed and also helped to settle my son down. After speaking with my lad and thanking him for being good, I then got a “plain English” explanation of what was wrong and how treatment would proceed. The lack of medical jargon was a blessed relief as I did not feel I had to search the internet to decipher what had just gone on and what was going to happen! I would have no hesitation in taking my son back to Ormskirk hospital. Admittedly I have only been there the once, but the impression I was left with was of a first rate facility staffed by a highly competent team that all worked together efficiently to deliver the care needed.
