"Tear duct operation"

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - Queen's Medical Centre Campus / Ophthalmology

(as the patient),

I arrived at QMC ward EC25 at 12.00pm for a tear duct operation. I was told I would be at the end of the list so I prepared myself. I was taken to theatre approximately at 3.30pm. Everyone was very helpful and encouraging. I was told the operation would take around 45minutes. I was given drops and injections, and then I walked into the theatre. I settled down and was told the outline of the procedure. Although I wear two hearing aids I was allowed to keep one in so could hear partially. The anaesthetist and surgeon did talk to me during the procedure but of course my deafness is a bit of a barrier! I felt no pain during and afterwards the nurses took care of me giving me pain killers. I was taken back to the admissions ward to rest with a cup of tea and I was back home by 6.30pm. I returned a week later to have the stitches removed. Another appointment has been made for September for a check up.
