"A&D Majors"

About: Bristol Royal Infirmary

My mother was admitted to this department 3 weeks ago. I understand it is an extremely busy ward with a lot of patients there due to excesses. However the staff are completely unprofessional, unco-operative, unsympathetic and lack any kind of human care or respect for seriously ill patients. My terminally ill mother was left in the department for 8 hours before she was transferred to the correct department, during this time the 6 doctors on ward where standing around (mum was there on a quiet night). I heard one doctor repeat the symptoms of another patient in a mocking manner. My mother was physically sick and when I went to give the bowl to a doctor who was just sat reclining on his chair he told me to go and look for a nurse who would take it away. 3 weeks later I am still absolutely furious by the way she was treated. The only exception to this was one particular member of staff who was on duty that evening. She was everything the other members of staff failed to be. I hope she get recognized for her excellent manner and care she gave to Mum and all at her side. She should be made an example of what a great NHS employee should be.

Thank you for your feedback. We are extremely concerned to hear about the care that you and your mother experienced, and are very sorry that it has left you feeling so upset and angry. This experience clearly does not represent the quality of care that our Emergency Department strives to deliver, or that our patients usually tell us that they receive. It is important that we are able to look into these issues properly for you: to enable us to do this we would be very grateful if you could contact our Patient Support & Complaints Team (0117 342 1050 / pals@uhbristol.nhs.uk). We appreciate that this will probably feel like added stress for you at this difficult time, but we very much hope that you will feel able to do this. We will of course share your feedback with the Emergency Department team so that they can review and discuss this. Thank you again and we very much hope to hear from you again soon.
