Formal complaint lodged following 2 incidents where Doctor advised patient that they were not happy about the route "chosen" for admission to IRH! ! Gp referred from Dunoon to attend A&E with letter stating condition. Rapid deterioration over a space of 3 weeks precipitated seeking advice on the way forward privately at Ross Hall Hospital. Possible diagnosis given however further tests recommended. Breathlessness increased - Gp sought advice from IRH admitted. Feel Dr overstepped a professional boundary and breached patient confidentiality by discussing condition in full earshot of other patients and relatives. There is a quiet room available and patient could have gone there with Dr. This has caused undue stress not just to patient but to relatives as well!

I work in a small team in NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde which seeks to involve patients and carers in the work of the NHS. The biggest part of my role is in managing feedback projects across the Board area, one of which is Patient Opinion. It is my job to give our patients and carers the opportunity to give us feedback, and to make sure that this is passed to the right people to help us improve the services we provide.

I am sorry that your friend has had this experience which has led to the submission a formal complaint. However, doing so will enable us to look into the specifics of this situation and respond to the patient directly in detail. We are grateful for that.

As I am sure you will appreciate we won’t be able to share this detail on Patient Opinion but please be assured that the issues you mention will be thoroughly investigated. In the course of this process we will aim to ensure that we consider what we need to learn and do differently in future.
