"My operation went smoothly"

About: Royal Hallamshire Hospital / Gynaecology Royal Hallamshire Hospital / Ophthalmology

(as the patient),

After my appointment with the GP last December, I had appointments at hospital on the 2nd and 22nd January this year. I had to see the consultant and have some investigations taken. In February I was then admitted to ward F1. I was immediately shown around and was allocated a bed. All the staff were helpful, efficient and friendly. The consultant, surgeon and anaesthetist explained all procedures to me and discussed any problems I had. The operation went smoothly. I received the best operative care; it was excellent as the consultant came to see me everyday. At no stage did I feel any trace of ageism (my age is 83years) or loss of dignity. The care from all the staff was excellent, the ward was spotlessly clean and the food good. The whole episode was quickly and efficiently dealt with and completely reassuring. I would have no fears if re-admission was necessary. I also had day care surgery to my eyes in December and April and experienced similar excellent care.
