"met our expectations despite being very busy"

About: Leeds General Infirmary

My husband had to use A&E after a bad fall on ice left him in severe pain. It was extremely busy and staff were under a great deal of pressure. We were aware early on that we would have to wait longer than we wanted and so adopted a be very patient frame of mind because staff were doing their best in difficult conditions. It is never pleasant to have to visit hospital but the staff were pleasant and as caring and professional as one can be in these stressful times. They have to prioritise care for individuals and yet need to be seen to be fair to all. We were never far away from staff for support and they provided assistance very speedily when asked. I am aware that they have targets to meet and we were seen before the four hour time wait and given an apology for the excessive wait. Systems seemed to have been put in place to get extra help at these very busy times, we were very grateful for this as it was a Saturday evening/night after all. Many thanks once again. Husband is slowly on the mend. Keep up the good work. Paramedics were absolutely superb. Great reassurance and wonderful team approach helped us a great deal before we got to the accident department and should be commended for their skills and professionalism and yet kind and down to earth approach.

Dear Aph, Thank you for taking the time out to write to us. I was delighted to read your kind comments regarding your husband’s admission to Leeds general infirmary’s A&E department. I am very pleased that you were seen within the four hour time frame and that it is recognised that we are increasing our staffing levels to help deal with the winter pressures and the pressures on the services over the weekend periods. I have taken the liberty of forwarding your kind words to the Leeds general infirmary’s A&E department and I am sure they well be exceptionally pleased with the feedback you have given. I wish your husband a quick recovery. With kind regards Rosie Senior Nurse Patient experience
