"Why did it take so long to be discharged?"

I attended QMC in April for an atrial fibrulation. I think things that could have been better included quicker response on pressing nurses’ buzzer. A lot of the staff were excellent but a few were very poor and better supervision of staff is needed. The bays on this ward were mixed. It was embarrassing at times when using commodes etc. There was also dis-organisation on discharge and information not dis-closed to me. I was told at midday that I would be going home if the blood result was ok. The result was not told to me until 6.30pm. My relatives were already with me to take me home. The doctor completed the discharge efficiently and was heard telling the nurse at 6.50pm to complete it. After my relative asking three times what the hold up was, they were told the tablets had not been ordered or checked by the pharmacy. By this time it was 8.40pm and the ward sister became involved who then apologised and rectified the situation efficiently by liaising with me and the pharmacy. The situation surely should not have happened as discharge is a common occurrence. There must be a procedure which should be followed. Also I was told at 9.20pm that I had been prescribed anti-biotics for a urine infection; at no point had anyone come to me to tell me that! I feel this is unacceptable. However, I would like to thank the ambulance and A&E rescue team.
