"I was fortunate to be in good hands"

In October 2008, a tumour was identified via a bowel cancer screening programme and I was referred to the colo-rectal surgeon at the Northern General Hospital. I was put through a variety of processes, including scans and internal examinations and seen by a variety of health care professionals prior to radiotherapy and surgery in December. In January 2009 I had a pulmonary embolism and was admitted to the Royal Hallamshire Hospital where all necessary protocols were followed; again by thoroughly professional and supportive medical staff. Since then I have been discharged from Weston Park but am still under the care of both the Northern General Hospital and the Royal Hallamshire Hospital (surgery and haematology respectively). Although I found some of the procedures uncomfortable both psychologically and physically, I fully appreciated the information flow (two-way) and realise how fortunate I was to be in good hands and having such good access to such a wide range of clinical facilities.
