"Can't get to see a dental hygienist on the NHS"

About: Cumberland Infirmary / Orthodontics

(as the patient),

After recently paying £1,900 to have a brace fitted privately (I would've had to wait 3 years with the NHS), I was told by my orthodontist that I would need to see a hygienist every 6 months as I had problems with my gums.

I made an appointment at my dentists and explained this to them. They then told me that they did not offer that service as they did not have a hygienist working for them. I told them that I would be willing to pay for the treatment. They then told me I would have to go private!

I have not needed much dental care and pay enough tax to pay for somebodys benefits each month. Is seeing a hygienist once every 6 months too much to ask?
