"Relatives matter"

About: St Georges Hospital Site (Morpeth)

Staff must give time to relatives who come to visit, also to tell the patient who it is. Relatives have to pick up the pieces when the person is discharged. They are patients to you but are mothers, sisters, daughters, aunts or nieces to us. Not being given any information leaves relatives in a very vulnerable position. It is easy for the staff to say "We cant talk to you as your not "on the list". Those same people are expected to take your "patient" home and care for them. They're an unknown quantity. The staff have spent 3 years at university and 1 year with a mentor to do your job, the family have had none of this. As RGN Im not impressed with the way we were treated

I will pass on your information to the Service Manager for the hospital to share with the teams there. If you would like a more personal response to the issues you have raised please contact me - Jennifer Illingworth, Deputy Director of Clinical Governance at jennifer.illingworth@ntw.nhs.uk so I can establish exactly which area of the hospital you are referring to.
