Staff attitudes are the biggest problem. I have never felt so disempowered in my life. Staff 'too busy' to give regular pain relief (after c section) and you can buzz in desperation for a slice of toast but it may be lunch time before you get any (even when up all night breastfeeding). The worst part of my experience was when my baby was taken to special care for a quick check over and it was hours before they would let me see her. Upon seeing her I realised they had carried out numerous tests and basically had my baby screaming the whole time...without my comfort and without my consent. This was made worse further when they told me she would need to stay in special care as a precaution and I could not sit with her or hold her - bare in mind baby was fine, just struggling on the breast. So I was forced to leave my crying baby to cry alone (staff did not comfort any of the crying babies) and go back to my bed. Worst time of my life.
