"Visiting Hours"

About: Royal Albert Edward Infirmary

(as a carer),

The restricted visiting hours on Langtree Ward make it virtually impossible for visitors to attend. One hour a day 7-8pm is not appropriate for older patients (particularly those with dementia) or for visitors who work. I personally want to be involved in care and discharge planning and I'm finding this impossible with such restrictive visiting times. Please review the evidence base for your visiting times and consider person centred open visiting.

Thank you for your posting in respect of visiting hours on Langtree Ward. As Langtree is a busy surgical ward with patients being transferred to theatre every day Monday to Friday – we do try and safeguard their privacy and dignity and care appropriately for patients to ensure adequate post operative rest and recuperation.

We are also mindful of the safety of our visitors and try and restrict the periods in which there are additional hazards on the ward including theatre transfer trolleys and post operative theatre equipment.

We do however recognise that the visiting hours may be inconvenient for people wishing to visit and we are more than happy to accommodate individual requests – please speak to the nurse in charge.

Kind regards
