"mental health injustice"

About: Vista Road Locality Unit / CMHT Newton & Haydock

(as the patient),

i just wanted to highlight the way some people using mental health services are treated, i being one of those people.

i have a severe and enduring mental health issue, and am on enhanced care from the health service. vista road was were i recieved my care, if u can call it that.

i am very afluent and know the service i should recieve. after numerous consultants and cpns, i am now left without either. why u may ask, because i dared to challenge my consultant, over wanting to change my medication. both my cpn and consultant had already decided my fate, before my meeting with them, that the answer would be no.

why, because they saw my health as stable, even tho i had told both of them, i was still rapid cycling.

this is my life, my body and i take my medication. so who should decide what medication i take, surely its me. my current medication has profound side effects, which add to my depressive symptoms. they cause weight gain, an issue that vastly affects me on a daily basis. i have to stick to a strict diet and exercise daily. a life i could do without, as i already live with my mental illnes every day of my life.

i have now lost all faith in vista road and the professionals that work there.

i have asked PALS to ask numerous questons to 2 particular professionals. as yet i have not had any answers. i was promised that things would be sorted for me over a month ago.

so yet again i feel let down, and a second class citizen.

my paranoia is prominant at the moment. i feel unsupported and disempowered.

it is about time that the patient has a real say in their care, even if that means their symptoms will get worse, with a change of medicaton. support at this time should be given, the long term result may be worth going thru a little trauma, a decision that the patient should make, not a consultant, who only sees you every 6 months.
