After referral by my GP for a possible cataract surgery (February 2009), I was examined by a hospital optometrist in April and called for surgery a week later. After preliminary checks and a session with the consultant I was in theatre for about twenty minutes. During this I saw and felt nothing, and after a final check by Miss Lim, I was allowed home. The whole thing took about five hours. At a follow up examination by the consultant a fortnight later I was discharged. I was very pleasantly surprised by the short time between referral and surgery and also by the efficiency of everybody concerned. The cataract clinic’s staff were evidently well practised in handling an orderly stream of patients and it worked well as far as I was concerned. It was also a bonus that the whole operation was totally painless.
"Very pleasantly surprised!"
