"Loving life at the Newberry Centre"

This is now my 6th admission at the Newberry Centre and although its been a roller-coaster of emotions the Newberry is definitely helpful. I've read some of the reviews and people have been so mean so I thought I'd add my own. My first admission lasted 6 months and I found it really helpful. My key nurse and co workers were amazing in working with me and my difficulties and I felt like we built a therapeutic relationship up well. My psychologist helped me massively by giving me individual DBT and led the groups I was in. I found it easy to talk to my psychologist and share my difficulties even though I had never talked to anyone about them before. My psychologist helped me find it easier to talk to others as well. One of the ward sisters is a 'DBT god' and the other is an amazing family therapist. I love them both. Although some of the staff really annoyed me at times they were only doing their jobs and 'its because they care'. Although my first admission didn't end well. It ended in me being moved and sectioned but it wasn't the Newberry Centres fault, it was just my mental state. I've had quite a few admissions after that and been at Westwood and am currently on a Section 3 but the Newberry Centre are still supporting me after all that. It will be rubbish to be here over Christmas again but the staff are really merry and Christmassy it wont be too bad. Anyway, what I'm trying to say is the Newberry Centre isn't all that bad. The HCA's are hilarious and make me laugh constantly. All the staff are brilliant and Olive is the best dog ever! Its hard at the moment because I cant just go home but when I'm feeling homesick the staff help me distract myself and its getting easier. The Acting Ward Manager is really good and wants to be involved in everything and will talk to you individually unlike some Ward Managers in other units. The associate modern matron comes on the ward with Olive and talks to you and asks how you are which they don't have to do, but still does. At last but not least my doctor see's me regularly and actually ask me how I am and what I want with my care instead of just telling me what I apparently need. Anyway I've rambled on about how helpful it is enough now. Keep going Newberry, you're saving lives.
