"Why is there no performance league table?"

About: Pontefract General Infirmary

(as the patient),

I am writing to complain about the lack of a performance league table to compare hospitals/clinics. I have been searching all morning to have become frustrated and annoyed. It is debilitating not being able to find what you are looking for. The data to create a performance league based on clinical excellence across exists but it spread across the internet and is difficult to find. I had a hip replacement at Pontefract Hospital which did not go well and despite following the usual complain processes, I have received no acknowledgement. If someone were to take responsibility and collate all the existing information into a league table it would make choice simpler for patients. I feel let down by the NHS. I know someone who works for NHS direct and when I proposed this idea to her she said it would reduce the volume of their calls by 40%. I am now aggravated and frustrated. I f the NHS don’t know about this then it’ll never be fixed

Thank you for your comments. The Department of Health have made the decision not to publish league tables for hospitals, however information regarding Annual Health Checks for each NHS Trust is available on the Care Quality Commission website. The Dr. Foster Intelligence website also offers independent information regarding health services and allows users to compare up to 6 hospitals against a number of different dimensions such as average wait times, length of stay and infection control rates. Regarding the complaint made concerning hip replacement treatment, the Trust is committed to investigating and responding to all formal complaints and we are concerned to note that this patient has not received any acknowledgement of their concerns. Whilst it is difficult in the circumstances to comment further, we would ask that the patient contact the Patient Liaison Team on 01924 213684 in order that relevant enquiries may be made.
