I chose Leicester General after my having my son here three years ago which was also a very positive experience. I was induced at 38 weeks due to having severe spd. I went in Tuesday morning and staff were helpful, helped me settle in introduced themselves and made me feel welcome, they explained the procedure and came promptly to answer questions. A day in and I was told that due to being busy with ladies who had come in already in labour they would delay on further treatment to progress my labour. ( i was supposed to have my waters broken) Although being being disappointed I was ok with this as things cant be helped. The next day things progressed I was given an over view of what was to happen and bar a few delays things moved along. The delivery itself was smooth and the midwife with me was caring sensitive of my needs and listened to me. The birth was over very quickly and throughout i was made to feel that I was in control. The after care on the ward was just as good staff listened to my concerns and put things in place nothing was too much for them. The negative- I feel that even though the midwives, nurses and auxiliary staff did a fantastic job, I felt that the consultants let the experience down. I was told what my plan of care was to be, I was never consulted with, made to feel that I did not matter and that so long as baby was ok it did not matter what happened to me, this was despite me being in pain and agony. The only other negative is the discharge process. This again took forever, Two days to be exact. I was told that i would be going home at 3pm on the Friday only to be told at 9pm by a new midwife that after having reviewed my notes that she discovered that baby needed a to have his 24 hour check in hospital as requested by the consultant. So after a whole day of my partner waiting around with my three year old son they went home. Saturday morning my son was seen by a pediatrician given the all clear. I was told that paper work was being done and I would be allowed to go home. I called my husband thinking this would be quiet soon, but again after waiting around the whole day it wasnt until 6.30pm that I was finally discharged, and this was only because my husband had to have a few words as the whole process was having an impact on my son. Apart from these two negatives I have no other issues. My care and the entire birth experience was wonderful.
"A very positive experience bar a few hiccups"
