The care of type 1 diabetics has been under monetary pressures for a long time, but recently it has become abundantly clear that Type 1s are not being given the attention their Chronic Illness deserves. The boxes might be ticked but the actual individual care is becoming less available each year and having had to use the service over more than 30 years I have a very wide view of this retraction of care. One example is the complete lack of psychological help. It is known that people with Chronic illnesses can and often do require this type of support. However this is now nigh on impossible to access unless you are suicidal. The cost to the NHS both locally and nationally will be huge if the lack of care continues as more and more Type 1 diabetics become less well and need more and more NHS care of the serious side effects.
