About: Torbay Hospital Torbay Hospital Torquay TQ2 7AA
I was recently admitted through a&e to a surgical ward where I received an mri scan to see if I had a misplaced stone from a surgical procedure 6 weeks ago to remove my gallbladder. They realised that there was not a stone but my bial duct was quite enlarged but didn't feel this was the problem. My liver enzymes had gone upto the thousands and they discovered I had what they called a drug induced liver disease. I was given medication to Try and control the pain but sent home after two days as the levels were dropping. I am still and was still in very bad pain which I had tried to explain but they were happy to send me home all the same. A nurse on the ward could not help but fill me in on hospital politics which I agree is completely wrong and unfair on the nursing staff but at the same time this is not the fault of the patient and not all patients are there to abuse the system. Her opinions although are valid should not be spoken about so openly in a ward direct with patients as confidentiality and opinions are supposed to kept to yourself when you work in such a profession. I feel I have been sent home to still suffer in pain and having to wait to go back for further investigation is not appropriate given the degree of pain and how long this has been ongoing. I really would not like to stay in torbay again due to the device I received and people higher up should be aware that this is happening on their wards.
