"The amazing care myself and baby received in a&E"

About: George Eliot Hospital - Acute Services / Accident and emergency George Eliot Hospital - Acute Services / Paediatrics

(as a parent/guardian),

My ten week old baby had been seen by a gp and was prescribed chlarithromycin for a chest infection..I was told to give her 5ml 3 times a day, after questioning this, I was told this was the dosage she needed..later that day, after giving her two doses I found out that babies weighing less than 8kg..my daughter is 5. 1kg..should have 1. 5ml twice a day at a smaller strength than what was given.

After ringing the helpline for advice, we had an appointment at the out of hours george eliot on 6. 12. 14. We were then sent to a&e where the whole team were excellent inc nurses and pediatrician.

After being checked over to a high standard we found out my daughter has bronchitis, a virus that antibiotics doesn't even clear..so there's something else that the gp got wrong!

Luckily I hadn't given my daughter enough of the medicine to be a toxic level but if I had we could be in a bad place. These members of staff made me feel so much better and took some of the worry away due to the caring, positive nature they gave.

I greatly appreciate the time they spent ensuring that my daughter was going to be ok before going home. They also provided me with information of what to expect, what is normal and when to go back if my daughter got worse so I then felt reassured, comfortable and alot less worried about my daughters illness although its horrible to see her poorly I know that if she needs extra support she will be in safe hands with the staff in a&e at george eliot hospital x
