"Could have benefited from earlier treatment"

About: Inclusion Matters Liverpool

(as the patient),

I have been struggling with stress and anxiety for a few years and took me a long time to realise how ill it was making me. I have attended about 8 sessions and feel much better. My therapist Sam has been extremely helpful in assisting me in dismissing intrusive thoughts through separating negative thinking patterns and not allowing them to all become one big anxiety. I feel much better again and able to function again. The only downside was the waiting time. When I was assessed on the phone interview I was told I would go to high intensity CBT but then there wasn't an available appointment for 16 weeks. I feel I really could have benefited from earlier treatment, however, now discharged I have been assured that follow up sessions are available in the future with a much shorter waiting time and just one could always make me feel better if required. This really helps reduce anxiety as I know people are always there to help and not to be afraid to ask for it.

Dear PMC17,

Thankyou for letting us know that you have found your CBT sessions helpful. I'm sorry you had quite a wait before you started therapy and understand how frustrating this must have been. The waiting time has improved significantly now so hopefully new people being referred won't experience the same difficulty. I'm glad that you have found it reassuring to know that you can refer yourself directly in the future should you need any further help.

Best wishes

Tracey
