"Life @ Dudhope Young Persons Unit"

About: Dudhope Young People's Unit

(as the patient),

I am a young person within this unit and have been here for a few months now. I think that this unit is very specialised and all staff are more than dedicated to their jobs. All of the staff are very friendly and very easy to get to know.

The unit has a very good atmopshere and also has a very clear cut service to provide to the young people. It is very strutured providing help and support for all of the young people from eating disorders to depression, bipolar, psychosis and other mental health issues.

The routine is very structured also. Each morning you wake up at 8 and are to be ready for community meeting in the morning after breakfast and a wash. Everyone gets together in the lounge to have a meeting about the days activitys and other information. After which school is the main priority, and we are all taken down to the in-patient school where we are taught whichever subject we are taught in our normal schools. Throughout the day we have appointments with medical staff, group meetings, therapy sessions which are very productive and helpful.

There are staff on call 365 days a year 24 hours a day and there is always someone to talk to "even if you're not up for talking".

Overall i'd like to say that this unit is a very very very good unit and that the support that it provides to the young people is tremendous.

Support is provided to: the Young Person, Parents, Relatives, Staff, Schools, and many more.

Dr Smith is a fantastic Dr and I wish her a very happy retirement in 2009.
